Latest patent is the 23rd for the innovative location-based services company

Carlsbad, CA., July 26, 2016 — LocationSmartⓇ, the worldwide leader in cloud location services for enterprise and consumer applications, today announces the issuance of U.S. Patent 9,313,326 by the U.S. Patent Office, which covers a system and method for determining and acting upon a wireless user’s association to a zone of relevance. It strengthens LocationSmart’s intellectual property portfolio for cost-effective solutions for enterprises to locate and engage with their mobile users regardless of their device type or method of communication when in a geofence or other area of interest.

A zone of relevance may be a geographic boundary or area of proximity such as radius from a city center, campus boundary or Wi-Fi coverage area of varying size in which engaging with an end user is likely to be of significant value to an enterprise. This value may depend on a host of factors that include the geographic conditions, the nature of the enterprise, historical details, its application and cost constraints. Once an end user’s physical association to the zone of relevance is determined, an enterprise may choose the appropriate means to engage with the user based on the cost of the location determination, a cost of notification, if necessary, and other criteria related to the value of sending that notification. For example, in a transportation management situation, the value of notification may be directly related to the vehicle route, fuel prices, the value of cargo or assets being carried and distance remaining until the destination is reached.

In a banking and fraud mitigation scenario, the value of notification would rise with the value of a high-risk financial transaction as determined by a dynamic input from the banking enterprise or a fraud detection bureau. The value of notification could be related to the permissions granted to multiple individuals with access to certain accounts in an enterprise’s financial portfolio. It may also be related to the amount of a transaction, remaining credit limit and type of product being purchased, among other conditions.

“The intellectual property behind the LocationSmart platform is strengthened with this new patent,” said Mario Proietti, CEO of LocationSmart. “Through our focus on such innovations, our platform allows customers to automate critical business functions and realize cost-savings that enable their businesses to grow more rapidly and achieve greater operating efficiencies.”
