LocationSmartⓇ, the worldwide leader in cloud location services for enterprise and consumer applications, was awarded patent EP2602983B1 by the European Patent Office that covers a system and method for determining and acting upon a wireless user's association to a zone of relevance or geofence. This patent enhances the reach of LocationSmart's intellectual portfolio in European markets and the technology provides another cost-effective solution for enterprises to locate and interact with mobile users in an area of interest.

The technology in this patent determines a value of notification for an end user and determines an appropriate zone of relevance for the notification to meet an enterprise's objectives. After an enterprise establishes an end user's physical association to the zone of relevance or a geofence, it is able to select the appropriate means to engage with the user based on the cost of the location determination, the value of sending the notification, and a variety of other factors.

The European Patent Office stipulates this patent is recognized in Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom. A patent covering this technology was issued by the U.S. Patent Office earlier this year.
